One leadership lesson that becomes increasingly valuable over time is the importance of loyalty and long-term relationships. Ruth understood this better than most. After experiencing tremendous loss, Ruth was presented with an opportunity to return to what was familiar and pursue her own path. Instead, she chose to remain committed to Naomi and continue the journey alongside her. **Ruth valued her relationship with Naomi over physical comfort.**

One verse that stands out to me comes from Ruth's response:

*"* *But Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.”” (Ruth 1:16 NLT)*

What I find interesting about Ruth's story is that her commitment was not based on convenience. It was based on character. As leaders, we often focus on building skills, expertise, and influence. Those things are important but many of the opportunities we experience throughout our careers come through relationships built over time.

• The mentor who invested in us.
• The colleague who stood by us during a difficult season.
• The teammate we could always count on.
• The leader who believed in us before others did.

Strong relationships are not built overnight. They are built through years of trust, consistency, and shared experiences. What I have learned is that loyalty does not mean resisting change, it means showing up for people, honoring commitments, and investing in relationships even when there is nothing immediate to gain. In a world focused on short-term results, long-term relationships remain one of the greatest leadership assets we can develop.

**People may remember your accomplishments, but they rarely forget how you showed up for them along the way.**

What is a relationship that has had a lasting impact on your leadership journey?
