One of the hardest lessons in leadership is understanding that growth rarely happens on our timeline. Joseph understood this better than most. He was betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and forgotten in prison. None of those experiences looked anything like success, yet each season was preparing him for the leadership role he would eventually step into.

One verse that stands out to me comes near the end of Joseph's story:

*"You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people." (Genesis 50:20 NLT)*

Looking back, Joseph could see something that was impossible to understand while he was living through the story. ***The setbacks were not the end of the story*** ***they were part of the preparation***.

As leaders, we often find ourselves frustrated by circumstances we did not choose:

• The promotion we didn't get.

• The project that failed.

• The difficult boss.

• The unexpected setback.

• Unclear expectations.

• The season that feels like it is taking longer than it should.

Looking back on my own career, some of the lessons that shaped me most came from seasons I never would have volunteered for. I have learned that leadership is not developed only through success. It is often developed through adversity, disappointment, and perseverance. **Sometimes the season you're trying to escape is the season preparing you for what's next.**

What challenge in your career turned out to be preparation for a future opportunity?
